Introduction

Azerbaijan is one of the most visited countries in the world, but how long does an Azerbaijan visa last? Today this article will break down what you need to know about Azerbaijan visas to help you plan for your next trip.

Validity of Azerbaijan visa

The validity of an Azerbaijan visa is determined by the type of visa, the period of stay, and the nationality of the traveller.

The validity of a visa can be for a period of up to six months for tourist visas, three months for business visas, and one month for student visas.

The most common type of Azerbaijan visa is a tourist visa which is valid for a period of 90 days.

Azerbaijan also offers multiple-entry tourist visas which are valid for a period of 30 days each.

For business travellers, Azerbaijan offers two types of visas: a business visa which is valid for one year and a multi-entry business visa which is valid for up to three years.

Does Azerbaijan require a Visa application?

Azerbaijan is a country located in Central Asia. As such, many travellers come to Azerbaijan for tourism and business opportunities. However, citizens of other countries should also be aware that Azerbaijan requires a visa for visitors not just from Europe and North America but also from South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

For citizens of most other countries, visa requirements are typically only for travel to certain regions of Azerbaijan (such as Baku or Absheron). Citizens of 43 countries are eligible for a visa on arrival without needing to apply in advance.

To apply for a visa in Azerbaijan, you will need to submit an application through the nearest embassy or consulate. The application fee is USD60 (Azerbaijani manat). You will also need a passport-sized photo and your ticket back home. If you are applying for a multiple-entry visa, you will need proof of financial support (a letter from your employer or bank statement).

If you are planning on staying in Azerbaijan for more than 90 days, it is recommended that you obtain a tourist visa in advance. Most nationalities can obtain a 30-day tourist visa on arrival, but citizens from the following countries cannot: Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. If you are only visiting Azerbaijan for a few days or less (less than 30 days), you can obtain a visa on arrival as long as you have already applied in advance through the nearest embassy or consulate. If you are applying for a multiple-entry visa, you will need proof of financial support (a letter from your employer or bank statement).

Conditions for issuing Visa

  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan approves entry visas only for citizens of countries with which they have diplomatic relations, as reported in their most recent list. These citizens can include stateless persons living in that country permanently, or as temporary or permanent residents.
  • If you apply for a visa using a travel document which isn't your primary one, then the visa is invalid. If you are applying for more than one e-visa, you must already have a trip in place and planned out before starting the process as it will be difficult to change your mind mid-process.
  • The standard e-visa takes 3 hours to be ready, while the urgent one takes 3 working days.
  • The expiration date of your e-visa is 3 months earlier than the travel document.
  • A large majority of e-visas are delivered within one day and regardless of non-working days or holidays. If you need to travel to the Republic.
  • The validity period is determined by the date that the visa was submitted, or after 3 working days. The start date of an urgent e-visa is decided by the date that it was issued.
  • Anyone applying for an e-Visa is responsible for entering accurate and relevant information, as well as the quality of their passport photograph.
  • An e-visa application must be submitted correctly and payment must also be made for the service.
  • If the information submitted in an electronic visa application is incorrect or incomplete, it will not be accepted.
  • If the photo is fuzzy or pixelated, an e-visa will not be issued. If an ASAN Visa has been denied, your application would have to be resubmitted in its entirety.
  • In certain cases, the ASAN Visa system will not be held responsible for denying an application or cancelling a visa.
  • Because an eVisa is not attached to a passport, it must be printed out in order to be presented for entry into Azerbaijan. A travel document has also to be shown.
  • Temporary visitors should apply to the management of their temporary place of residence, such as hotels and sanatoriums, or owners of apartments to register them on their commitment without the need to pay in any way.
  • Entry is permitted into Azerbaijan, however, entry may be prohibited in some cases as specified in the Republic of Azerbaijan's Migration Code.
  • A foreigner or stateless person can not use an e-Visa to bring their family to the Republic of Azerbaijan and they cannot work here while they are here.
  • In Azerbaijan, all correspondents and cameramen in foreign media need a visa to conduct their journalistic activities. A visa can be acquired by going through an ASAN Visa program. If they are found without accreditation they will be expelled from Azerbaijan and face consequences.
  • The visa is revalidated each month, so if it's not used in a month, it loses its validity, unless it was intended to be only temporary.
  • People can apply for a new immigrant visa only after they leave the territory of Azerbaijan.
  • Aerially patrolling the border, prohibits any countryless and foreigner who have no documents but have had permission to cross the country’s border will not be allowed through.
  • Anyone caught using false documents or other people's identification will be prosecuted--the law provides further details.
